UW-Milwaukee Downs USD Women's Tennis Team, 6-1

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeated The University of South Dakota women's tennis team, 6-1, in action Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Despite the loss, Coach Malcolm Gilreath's Coyote squad showed improvement from Friday's match against Northern Iowa.

"We were more comfortable," Gilreath said. "You could significantly tell the difference between yesterday (Friday) and today."

Shadi Soleymani (Fr., Vasteras, Sweden) recorded a win at No. 1 singles for USD, beating UWM's Kelly Drvaric, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

"Shadi had a very good win at No. 1 singles," Gilreath said.

Soleymani and Rijalda Zejnic (Jr., Hamilton, Ontario) battled tough at No. 1 doubles but fell, 8-5. USD's No. 2 doubles teams, consisting of Janea Hagen (So., Bellevue, Neb.) and Melanie Rockne (Jr., Yankton, S.D.), also battled tough before falling 8-5.

USD (2-3 duals) resumes action at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Sioux City, Iowa against Dordt College.

"We're going to work hard this week and we look forward to playing Dordt next Saturday," Gilreath said.
