VERMILLION, S.D. - South Dakota freshman Yamini Reddy captured the championship in the Singles Flight D to highlight the day for the South Dakota women's tennis team at the Omaha Collegiate Sunday in Omaha, Neb.

Reddy (Bangalore, India) rolled to a 6-2, 6-1, win over Elizabeth Vermillion of Creighton to capture the flight title and improve to 9-3 in singles play during the fall season.

"She won a very solid match," South Dakota head coach Malcolm Gilreath said.

Including Reddy's victory, the Coyotes won five singles matches on the day. Junior Veronika Makashov (Richmond Hill, Ontario) recorded a 6-0,5-7, 10-4 win over South Dakota State's Brooke Henry to place fifth in the Singles Flight C.

Junior Marina Kiefer (Zurich, Switzerland) beat Nebraska-Omaha's Jaquline Baude, 6-0, 6-2 in the Singles Flight D, while senior Ysabel Nunez (Oakville, Ontario) beat SDSU's Anna Botzel, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 in the Singles Flight E. Senior Alena Sergeychik (Moscow, Russia) beat teammate Nina Barudzic (Kragujevac, Serbia), 6-4, 6-2 in the fifth-place match in the Singles Flight B.

"We had a very productive day," Gilreath said.

Sophomore Michelle Elkin (Omaha, Neb.) placed second in the Singles Flight A; she lost to Jennie Hartjes of Creighton, 6-1, 6-0 in the championship.

The action Sunday wrapped up the fall season for the Coyotes. Their spring season begins in January.

"I am very happy with our fall results," Gilreath said. "We're looking forward to getting ready for our strength and conditioning, and improving on some technical aspects. We're going to work on doubles."
