Vermillion, S.D. -- South Dakota junior Shadi Soleymani has been named to the
All-Great West Conference second team in women's tennis, the has announced. It is the first all-conference honor for Soleymani.
Soleymani (Vasteras, Sweden) was named to the team after a solid showing at the Great West Conference Championship last weekend. Soleymani went 1-0 in singles, beating Mysta Townshell of Chicago State, 6-2, 6-0. She also recorded a doubles win against Chicago State.
Despite missing several matches because of injury, Soleymani finished with a 9-6 mark in singles in 2011.
"Shadi is our captain and is the heart and soul of our team," South Dakota head coach Malcolm Gilreath said. "She fought very hard this year through various injuries and came through in the clutch in the situations. We're very happy with her earning this award."
