Throwers Lead Way for Coyote Track and Field at Final Day of Weather-Shortened Sioux City Relays

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Wins by throwers Jasmine Mosley and Cody Snyder highlighted the final day of competition for the South Dakota track and field teams at the Sioux City Relays Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa. The meet was cut short because of rain and lightning before all events could be completed Saturday.

Mosley (Bellevue, Neb.) won the women's shot put with a throw of 48-11, while senior teammate Darci Schwartz (McCook Lake, Neb.) was third in that event at 44-3 1/4. Mosley's throw was second-best in the Summit League this season. Mosley had won the discus on Friday.

A day after winning the men's shot put, Snyder (Lake Andes, S.D.) added a win in the men's discus with a throw of 155-2. Senior Kyle Wheeler (Omaha, Neb.) was second in the discus at 151-10.

Freshman Emily Grove (Pontiac, Ill.) also had a strong showing for the Coyote women in the pole vault, winning the event with a height of 13-6, shattering the previous meet record by 18 inches.

Sophomore Jeff Mettler (Eureka, S.D.) was second in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase of 8:58.95, which is a new school record and also a national-qualifying time. The time shattered Mettler's previous personal best by nearly 12 seconds.

For the Coyote women, freshman Analisa Huschle (Bagley, Minn.) was second in the 100-meter dash at 12.17 and third in the long jump at 18-1 1/2. Sophomore Ashleigh Giese (Marshall, Wis.) was fifth in the 1,500-meter run at 4:48.18.

The Coyote men' s 4x200 relay was first at 1:28. That consisted of junior Brandon Kovash (Harrisburg, S.D.), freshman Jeff O'Connell (Philip, S.D.), sophomore Parker Erickson (Gayville, S.D.) and senior Jared Clement (Le Mars, Iowa). Their 4x800 relay was second at 7:52.35, consisting of freshman Stephen Nielson (Pierre, S.D.), freshman Tyler Sternhagen (Yankton, S.D.), sophomore Jacob Evenson (Sioux City, Iowa) and sophomore Alex Hohenthaner (Yankton, S.D.).

Also for the men, sophomore Travis Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) was third in the 1,500-meter run at 3:56.52, while senior Chad Pinkelman (Norfolk, Neb.) was third in the long jump at 22-1 3/4. Freshman Jeff O'Connell (Philip, S.D.) was fourth in the long jump at 21-11 3/4, while Clement was fourth in the 100-meter dash at 11.06.

The Coyote teams are back in action at a pair of meets starting Thursday. The Coyotes will send a contingent of athletes to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., while also sending a group to the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan.
