GRAND FORKS, N.D.— Five Coyotes recorded straight set wins in singles play as the South Dakota tennis team began the Brett Barnett era with a 7-0 sweep of Minnesota State-Moorhead on Friday evening at the Choice Health and Fitness Center.
South Dakota's (1-0) No. 2 through No.6 spots all recorded sweeps in the match. Yuliya Sidenko didn't drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 win over Morgan Smith at the No. 4 spot, while Rymma Maslova dropped one in the second set of her No. 2 spot win over Andrea Rognlien (6-0, 6-1). Dragana Brankovic, Alice Scott and Yamini Reddy also added sweeps.
Milica Pavlovic, USD's No. 1 player, added the final singles win for USD, topping Sam Smith 7-5, 4-6, 10-3.
South Dakota was 2-1 in the doubles portion of the match. Pavlovic and Brankovic tallied a 6-1 win over Cass Smith and Sam Smith, while Scott and Maslova notched a 6-2 victory over Ashley Wood and Morgan Smith. Rebecca Lukes and Rognlien recorded a 7-5 victory for the Dragons (0-1) in the final doubles pairing against Nina Barudzic and Sidenko.
South Dakota will be back on the courts tomorrow to take on North Dakota at 1 p.m.
