Tennis splits Thursday matches

ORLANDO, Fla. -- South Dakota tennis topped Hampton 7-0, but dropped its match to Bryant 4-3 on Thursday.

Yuliya Sidenko, Dragana Brankovic and Alice Scott all won both their singles matches on Thursday and tallied one win in doubles play. Sidenko is now 3-0 in singles matches during USD's spring break trip while Brankovic has a 2-1 record during the same stretch.

The Coyotes (5-4) won every match against Hampton (0-5) and only had one singles match reach the third set. It was the first sweep by the Coyotes since their first match of the season against Minnesota State-Moorhead on Jan. 30 and the first sweep of a non-conference Division I opponent since a 7-0 win over Valparaiso on Jan. 31, 2014.

Bryant (4-6) swept USD in the doubles matches and clinched the match with singles wins in the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 positions. Sidenko and Brankovic recorded singles sweeps for USD, as Sidenko topped Linnea Sjoberg 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot and Brankovic topped Briana Leonard 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot. Scott won the No. 5 match with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 win over Nina Luiggi.

South Dakota will wrap up its spring break with a match against Radford on Friday.
