Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS--South Dakota hit eight home runs and pitchers Rachel Cue and Madison Frain delivered in the circle as the Coyotes swept IUPUI 6-1 and 11-7 to begin Summit League play Saturday at chilly IUPUI Softball Field. The third game of the series is at 10 a.m. CT Sunday.South Dakota designated player Sydney Hancock hit a two-run shot in the second inning of game one. Catcher Allie Daly hit a two-run homer in the first inning of game two. Center fielder Katie Dinning homered in both games and drove in four runs in the process.
Shortstop Matley Jones hit a two-run shot to left field to give the Coyotes (10-17-1, 2-0 Summit) a 4-1 lead in the opener. Jones also doubled in the first inning of game two and has hit safely in 13 consecutive games.
First baseman Yvon Minogue, the nation's leader in doubles, didn't double Saturday. Instead, she settled for four singles and a solo home run to right centerfield in game two that gave South Dakota a 3-0 lead. Minogue was 5-for-9 Saturday and increased her average to a team-leading .441.
Cue (5-10) turned in one of her top performances of the season in game one. She allowed four hits and struck out eight -- her second-highest tally this season. She allowed a lone single over the final four innings and the only run she surrendered was on a home run by Taylor Chitwood in the second.
Frain (4-7) took a shutout into the final inning of the nightcap. South Dakota scored four runs in the fourth and seventh innings to take an 11-0 lead. The Jaguars (18-10, 2-3) got a three-run double from Maggie Good and a two-run homer from pinch hitter Jazmine Pedrotti as part of a seven-run final inning. Cue replaced Frain following the homer and struck out Delilah Wright to end the game.
The two teams battled on a cold and sunny Saturday in Indianapolis where the temperature never touched 40 degrees. Game time temperature Sunday is expected to be in the low 40s.
