INDIANAPOLIS—South Dakota split a pair of 4-3 matches on a trip to Indianapolis over the weekend. The Coyotes defeated league rival IUPUI on Saturday but fell to Butler on Friday.
South Dakota (6-6, 2-1) picked up the doubles point against IUPUI (6-8, 2-2) by sporting 8-4 and 8-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. The Coyotes also tallied singles points from junior Milica Pavlovic, sophomore Yuliya Sidenko and senior Yamini Reddy.
Reddy and Sidenko were the first two matches completed. Reddy defeated Hayley Trinkle 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, while Sidenko topped Abbey Neff 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. The deciding point came at the No. 1 spot where Pavlovic fell 6-7 in the first set, rallied 7-5 to take the second and clinched the win with a score of 6-2 in the third.
Butler (5-13) won four singles matches to take Friday's dual. The Coyotes won two of three doubles matches to take the first point and added singles wins from senior Rymma Maslova and sophomore Dragana Brankovic at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively.
Butler's Konstantina Adami handed Sidenko her first loss of the spring season and ended a 10-match win streak. Adami won a first-set tiebreaker, but Sidenko fought back with a 6-1 victory in the second set. Adami won the third set 7-5 to take the match. Sidenko's win on Saturday improved her singles record to 11-1.
South Dakota takes on Fort Wayne in Vermillion, S.D., for their first home meet of the season on Saturday.
