Box Score VERMILLION, S.D.--South Dakota used five more home runs to complete a three-game sweep of Fort Wayne Sunday at Nygaard Field. Matley Jones hit two, two-run homers in a 12-4 South Dakota victory. The Coyotes totaled 14 homers and 42 runs in the series.
South Dakota first baseman Yvon Minogue was 3-for-3 Sunday with a single, double and her seventh home run of the season. Minogue, the nation's leader in doubles, notched her 21st two-bagger of the season, which broke South Dakota's single-season record set by Teri Stucky in 1993. Minogue was 7-for-8 in the series with two homers and nine runs scored. She reached base in 10 of 11 at bats.
The Coyotes (15-21-1, 6-3 Summit) scored six runs in the fourth inning to turn a 4-3 deficit into a five-run lead. Christy Warnock scored two runs with a bases loaded single to right that put USD ahead 5-4. Minogue's record-breaking double followed to make it 6-4. Jones' second homer in as many innings and 13th of the season made it 9-4.
Minogue hit a two-homer in the fifth that made it 11-4 and Katie Dinning's walk-off blast to center ended the game. It was the third time USD hit back-to-back home runs during the series.
Fort Wayne (3-33, 2-10) took advantage of three South Dakota miscues in the field to score four times in the top of the third inning. Three of the Mastodons' five hits came in the frame. Coyote pitcher Madison Frain (8-8) allowed five hits -- all singles -- to earn her second win in as many games.
Jones was 9-for-11 in the series with five home runs and 14 RBIs. She has six home runs in her last five games and leads the Summit in both homers (13) and RBIs (45).
South Dakota, alone in second place in the Summit, next takes on Minnesota Wednesday in Minneapolis. The team returns home for a three-game weekend series with Omaha.
