MINNEAPOLIS—South Dakota sophomore
Shanice Cannigan recorded the 10th-best pentathlon score in the nation and senior
Kelsey Barrett repeated as the Jack Johnson Classic 5,000-meter champion on Friday in Minneapolis.
Cannigan broke the school record with 3,817 points to finish runner-up in the pentathlon. Her score will increase approximately 20 points due to adjustments for track size. Cannigan cleared a career-best 5-8 ¾ to tie for first in the high jump, which ranks third in program history. She clocked 8.87 seconds in the 60 hurdles, threw 29-4 ¾ in the shot put, leaped 18-2 ½ in the long jump, and ran 2:22.72 in the 800 meters.
Barrett crossed the line in 17 minutes, 14.53 seconds, a time five seconds off her own meet record from a year ago. A Coyote distance runner has won the 5,000 meters at the Jack Johnson Classic for four consecutive years. Barrett's time tops the Summit League and ranks 34th in the nation. Senior
Katie Wetzstein finished third in the race with a time of 17:37.64.
Junior
Dustin Valind threw 50-3 ¼ to take second in the shot put.
Senior sprinter and jumper
