The Game
South Dakota and South Dakota State meet for the 218th time Saturday when the two square off at 1 p.m. inside Frost Arena. The Coyotes, fresh off a superb performance against Omaha in Thursday's Summit League opener, are seeking their first win in Brookings in 17 years. The Jackrabbits saw their 34-game home win streak end Wednesday against North Dakota State. They've won three in a row and seven of the last eight meetings against South Dakota.

The Jacks
South Dakota State is in its first season under head coach T.J. Otzelberger, who replaced long-time coach Scott Nagy. The team's best win during non-conference play came at home against UMKC, but the Jacks went 0-8 against teams with an RPI in the top 185.

Sophomore forward Mike Daum is living up to his Summit League Preseason Player of the Year distinction. He leads the league and ranks 13th nationally at 22 points per game. He is also the Summit's second-leading rebounder. Reed Tellinghuisen adds 11 points per game and A.J. Hess adds 10. No other player averages more than five points per game.

SDSU is mixing zone defenses under Otzelberger. It keep the Jacks out of foul trouble, but opponents have shot 38 percent from downtown against it. On the other end, only one team in the nation has made more free throws than the Jacks, who make them at a 79 percent clip.

The Yotes
South Dakota jumped out to a 29-9 lead against Omaha and kept the pedal to the metal in an 86-69 victory. Junior point guard Trey Dickerson scored a season-high 17 points and has reached double figures in five consecutive games. The Coyotes made a season-high 10 3-pointers on just 18 attempts.

A win Saturday would give USD its second 2-0 start in Summit League play in six seasons. The Coyotes are 0-9 against SDSU since 2000, but most of this year's roster is completely new to the series. Of the eight players who average double-digit minutes this season, only senior center Tyler Flack has competed in the rivalry.
