2016 Iowa State Classic Results

AMES, Iowa—South Dakota senior Emily Grove sailed over 14 feet, 9 1/2 inches to win the Iowa State Classic pole vault competition inside Lied Recreation Athletic Center.

Grove, a three-time All-American who sat out the 2015 season due to injury, tied her career best and the program record Saturday. Grove also broke her own Iowa State Classic meet record of 14-4 from two years ago. The Pontiac, Ill., native moved to second nationally in the pole vault with the jump.

Junior teammates Hunter Wilkes, Madison Mills and Emily Brigham finished sixth through eighth, respectively. Each cleared 12-9 ½ in the vault.

With the 300-meter track, the Iowa State Classic becomes a distance heavy meet. Senior Katie Wetzstein and junior Mach Dojiok both came away with career bests in their respective events. Wetzstein clocked 4:48.80 to better her own school record in the mile. She placed 12th overall. Dojiok took a second off his indoor 800-meter personal best in clocking 1:51.28 for 33rd.

Junior Danielle Waldner also bested her own school record, throwing 52-3 ¾ for fourth in the shot put. She had thrown 51-10 earlier this season. Senior Meghan Dennis placed fifth in the shot put with her own personal best, throwing 48-4 ½ for the second-best mark in program history.

Junior jumpers Ashley Thompson and Tyler Frank placed fifth in their respective events. Thompson reached 39-2 ¼ in the triple jump while Frank cleared 6-8 ¾ in the high jump.

The Coyote women's 4x400-meter relay raced to the team's best time of the season in 3:46.49. Freshman Karina Dufoe, sophomore Shanice Cannigan, senior Analisa Huschle and sophomore Brooke Ireland teamed together for fifth place.

Huschle clocked 7.70 seconds in the 60-meter dash for ninth. Dufoe took 14th in 7.85.

Sophomore Gawain Williams placed eighth in the 60 meters with a time of 6.85. He had the second-fastest preliminary time entering the finals at 6.82 seconds.

The Coyotes travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday.
