Williams to return to Nebraska

Williams to Neb.

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball coach Amy Williams announced Monday that she has accepted the head coaching position at her alma mater, the University of Nebraska. Williams compiled a 96-44 record in four seasons at South Dakota to become the second-winningest coach in program history.

Williams will be formally introduced at a press conference on Tuesday, April 12 at 10 a.m. in Lincoln.

During her four years at the helm of the Coyote program, Williams led the Coyotes to the 2016 Women's National Invitation Tournament Championship, the program's first NCAA Tournament in 2014 and four-straight Summit League Tournament championship games. The Coyotes are also back-to-back regular season Summit League champions.

Williams' 2015-16 squad posted a 32-6 record en route to winning the program's first national postseason title. The Coyotes set single-season records for points, average points per game, field goals made-attempted, rebounds and assists.

A native of Spearfish, S.D., Williams played for the Huskers from 1994-98. After graduation, she served as a graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and then as an assistant at Texas-San Antonio, Oklahoma State and Tulsa.

Williams' first head coaching gig came at Rogers State University in 2007, where she built the women's basketball program from scratch into an NAIA national contender. She recorded a 97-65 record in five seasons at Rogers State.

Between South Dakota and Rogers State, Williams holds a 193-109 all-time coaching record.

A national search for the 10th head coach in South Dakota women's basketball history will begin immediately.
