Meet Results
BROOKINGS, S.D.–South Dakota captured five events at the Jim Emmerich Invitational inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Saturday. In the team race, the Coyote women finished third with 71 points while the men were fourth with 68.
Coyote freshman
Chris Nilsen improved his own pole vault school record from last weekend to 18 feet, 1 inch. Nilsen becomes the first Coyote vaulter to surpass the 18-foot mark. Nilsen's height ties for third in the nation this season. He's also the only freshman in the top 20 nationally. Teammate
Jake David finished runner-up to Nilsen after clearing 16-8 ¾.
Senior
Danielle Waldner was victorious in the shot put with a throw of 52-1 ¼, a mark 2 ½ inches shy of her own school record. Waldner, who topped a Bison sweep of places 2-5, moves to 23rd in the nation.
Junior
Shanice Cannigan captured the long jump with a personal best 19-0 ¾. The mark ties for fifth on USD's all-time charts. She also finished runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds.
Junior
Gawain Williams crossed the finish in 6.80 seconds to win the 60 meters. He led teammates,
Jack Thony and
Joe Reagan, who finished fifth and sixth in the race.
The Coyotes put three in the top-five of the women's pole vault led by junior
Emily Brigham's winning height of 12-5 ½. Brigham equals her performance from a week ago. Senior
Madison Mills and freshman
Makiah Hunt took fourth and fifth, respectively.
South Dakota continued to establish its cross country dominance on the track with seven Coyotes in the top-12 of the women's mile with each under 5:10. Junior
Rachael Zeiger, a transfer from Gillette College, led the way in second place with a personal best 4:54.76. The mark ranks fifth on USD's all-time charts. Junior
Lindsay Joyce also recorded a personal best with a time of 4:56.37 for third. Zeiger and Joyce rank second and third on Summit League charts this season.
Senior
Amber Eichkorn followed up the mile with a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters. Eichkorn crossed the finish in 9:55.81.
Sophomore
Ethan Fenchel placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 62-7 ¼. The distance is a half-inch shy of junior
Jacob Barents' school record in the event set last weekend. Barents took fifth on Saturday with a throw of 61-3 ½.
On the track, sophomore
Brennan Schmidt finished third in the 400 meters with a personal best 48.38 seconds. Schmidt's time ranks fifth on USD's indoor charts and drops a hundredth of a second from his outdoor personal best.
Senior
Jay Cooper took third place in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.30 seconds. The time moves Cooper to ninth on USD's all-time charts. Freshman
Dennis Parsley took fifth in the event.

The Coyotes travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Jack Johnson Classic next weekend.
