2017 SDSU Classic Results
BROOKINGS, S.D.–South Dakota junior
Jacob Barents captured the shot put title at the SDSU Classic to lead the Coyotes inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Barents threw 56 feet, 10 inches, to earn the victory. He was also the second collegiate in the weight throw with a toss of 63-0. Three-time Olympian and throws coach
A.G. Kruger set a new facility and meet record in the weight throw at 73-2. Redshirt-sophomore
Ethan Fenchel was fourth overall and the third collegiate in the weight.
Sophomore
Brennan Schmidt improved his personal best in the 400 meters to 47.84 seconds. He was the second runner in the race where the top four times broke the meet record. Schmidt's time moves him to third in the Summit League this season and third on USD's all-time charts.
Redshirt-junior
Nicole Schmidt finished runner-up in the mile run with a season-best clocking of 5:00.94.
The Coyotes had three athletes place in the men's and women's 60-meter hurdles. Junior
Shanice Cannigan took third on the women's side in 8.67 seconds. She set a new USD program record last weekend in the event with a 8.57 clocking. USD alum
Teivaskie Lewin took third on the men's side in 8.03 seconds. He holds the school record of 7.77 seconds. Senior
Jay Cooper took fourth overall and was the third collegiate in the men's race with a time of 8.30 seconds.
Freshman
Britny Kerr tied her season best of 37-5 in the triple jump to take fourth place. Junior
Colette Christensen finished seventh in the event.
Senior
Danielle Waldner was seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 56-4 ¾. In the shot put, sophomore
Mary Wester placed eighth with a throw of 44-2.
Freshman
Tasheka Gordon finished eighth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.82 seconds.
South Dakota returns to the DakotaDome at 5 p.m. Friday for the USD Last Chance Meet.
