AUSTIN, Texas–South Dakota junior
Jacob Barents launched the shot put a season best 57 feet even to capture the "B" section of the shot put Friday at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Barents improved his season-opening mark by nearly a foot and ranks fourth on USD's all-time charts. The junior took the lead with his third throw and the mark held through the finals. He also had a toss of 56-1 ¾ on his second attempt.
Senior
Meghan Dennis launched a season best of 148-0 to take 13th place in the javelin throw.
Three Coyotes made up a field of more than 100 competitors in the men's 100-meter run. Junior
Gawain Williams highlighted the trio in 22nd place with a time of 10.48 seconds. Sophomore
Joe Reagan cruised to a new personal best of 10.61 seconds to finish in the top-half of the field in 50th place. Senior
Jack Thony took 87th. In a similarly competitive women's field, sophomore
Karina Dufoe and freshman
Tasheka Gordon both clocked 12.29 seconds for 83rd and 84th place, respectively.
The men's 4x100 relay with legs from freshman
Sam Clark, Thony, Reagan and Williams took 17th with a time of 41.04 seconds. The relay's school record mark of 40.13 seconds, clocked at Arizona State two weeks prior, would have qualified for Saturday's nine-team final.
Following Thursday's races in the 400-meter hurdles, senior
Jay Cooper and junior
Shanice Cannigan took to the straight away for the 110-meter and 100-meter hurdles. Cooper placed 20th in 14.57 seconds while Cannigan finished 36th.
A pair of Coyote throwers finished in the top-11 of two sections of the discus. Junior
Ethan Fenchel took 10th in Section A of the discus with a toss of 166-5 in the afternoon. Earlier in the day, senior
Dustin Valind finished ninth in Section B of the discus with a throw of 160-4.
Four Coyotes compete in field events at the Texas Relays on Saturday beginning at noon.
