AUSTIN, Texas–South Dakota senior
Danielle Waldner became the third Coyote in three days to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships on Saturday at the 2017 NCAA West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Waldner placed herself in qualifying position from her initial throw, improving with each successive toss to a distance of 55 feet, 3 inches, on her third and final attempt. The Redfield, S.D., native initially broke the South Dakota program record in the shot put as a freshman and has improved that initial mark by nearly seven feet in four years. She launched a personal best 56-11 ½ to break the Summit League Championship record two weeks ago. Her mark ranks ninth in the NCAA entering the championships.
Senior
