IOWA CITY, Iowa – South Dakota sophomore
Habiba Aly won a pair of matches at the ITA Regionals held Friday through Monday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
Aly defeated Ana Bjelica of Western Illinois 6-2, 6-0 and also downed Kelsey Neville of Drake 6-2, 6-2 in qualifier matches.
Aly then fell in the main draw to Minnesota's Tina Kreinis 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Individually, four other Coyotes took part in singles play, each dropping their initial match.
Emma Tranberg, Natka Kmošková and
Nanette Nylund all fell in the qualifier section while
Jana Lazarevic dropped her initial match in the main draw.
Tranberg was defeated by Yana Grechkina of UMKC 6-1, 6-1 while Kmoskova fell to Natalia Barbery of Bradley 6-2, 6-2 and Nylund suffered a 6-4, 6-4 setback against Thanushree Vale of UMKC.
Lazarevic suffered a 6-1, 7-5 setback to Minnesota's River Hart.
In doubles play, the South Dakota duo of Kmoskova and Lazarevic went 1-1 while the tandem of Nylund and Tranberg dropped their only match.
Kmoskova/Lazarevic defeated Romana Tarajova and Manuela Barriga of Southeast Missouri State by an 8-2 count before falling to Oklahoma State's Catherina Gulihur and Marina Guinart 8-1.
Nylund/Tranberg suffered an 8-4 setback against Iowa's Samantha Mannix and Sophie Clark.
The ITA regional tournament marks the end of the fall season for the Coyotes.
