The South Dakota men's basketball team plays its first true road contest of the season when it faces Baylor Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Waco, Texas.

South Dakota, who has played three neutral-site games, goes into hostile territory for the first time this year. Baylor, who also has not played a road game on the season, is 3-1 on its home floor inside the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.

Brandon Armstrong and sophomore
Stanley Umude both hail from San Antonio. The Alamo city is just over three hours from Waco.

Baylor is 4-2 on the season after being picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 preseason poll. Makai Mason leads a quartet of Bears in double-figure scoring at 15.7 points per contest. Second on the team in scoring is Tristan Clark at 14.8 points per contest. He is shooting the ball at an 80-percent clip tallying 36 makes on 45 total shots. Mark Vital leads the squad with 6.2 rebounds per game.

Baylor is coming off a 1-1 record at the Emerald Coast Classic, falling 78-70 to Ole Miss. The Bears rebounded to top George Mason 72-61 on Saturday behind 27 points and 14 rebounds from King McClure. Mason added 18 points in a team-high 38 minutes.

South Dakota is 3-2 on the young season, coming off a 58-52 victory over UMBC in the finale of the Bimini Jam. Senior
Trey Burch-Manning earned all-tournament team accolades after averaging 20.7 points and five rebounds over the three-game event. He shot the ball at a highly-efficient 68.6 percent from the field, totaling 20 or more points in each game. Burch-Manning has now totaled four games of 20 or more points this season after reaching the mark just once in his Coyote career entering the season.

Matt Johns earning the start in place of an injured
Cody Kelley. Johns, the first freshman to earn a start for USD since
Tyler Hagedorn on Jan. 3, 2016, played a season-high 26 minutes in the game against UMBC.

The two squads have just one meeting, a 1969 neutral-site contest that Baylor won 95-75. The game, occurring Dec. 19, 1969, was part of the Cowboy Classic in Abilene, Texas.

Burch-Manning leads the nation in 3-point field goal percentage, sinking 72.2 percent of his shot attempts from long range. The native of Federal Way, Washington, is 13-of-18 from deep after working on his shot during the offseason. He entered 2018-19 12-of-33 in his career at USD from 3-point distance. In order to qualify for the NCAA stats rankings, a player must average 2.5 made 3-point baskets per game.
