VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball holds steady at third in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll announced Tuesday evening. The Coyotes have been receiving votes in the Associated Press poll for nine-straight weeks and the USA Today Coaches poll for eight of the last nine weeks.
The Coyotes (19-3, 7-1) went undefeated during a tough stretch of four Summit League games in eight days in four different states spanning nearly 1,800 miles. South Dakota has one league game this week at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday.
South Dakota sophomore center
Hannah Sjerven led a balanced Coyote attack in both games last week. She knocked down 6-of-8 from the floor, including two of her four career 3-pointers in one night, to total 16 points at North Dakota on Thursday night. The Coyotes came away with an 80-50 road victory in Grand Forks with four players in double-figures. Sjerven then recorded her third career double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds back at home against Western Illinois on Saturday. Five Coyotes scored double-figures in that one as South Dakota topped the Leathernecks 92-49.
USD's defense has held its past three foes to 50 or fewer points and 29.8 percent from the floor.
The Coyotes travel to Purdue Fort Wayne for 11 a.m. (CT) tip-off on Saturday inside the Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
