Ethan Fenchel and sophomore
Macy Heinz broke program records in their respective events on Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Tune-Up inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Fenchel launched the weight throw 68 feet, 11 ¾ inches to break his own Coyote program record by eight inches. Fenchel was the top collegian in the competition, finishing behind three-time Olympian and USD throws coach
A.G. Kruger, who launched the weight 73-6 ¾.
Heinz clocked 1:32.71 for 600 meters, which just edged out a seven-year-old record held by fellow South Dakota native Emma (Erickson) Ladwig. Senior
Mallory Fine just missed Ladwig's time herself by six-hundredths of a second. Fine crossed the finish line in 1:33.66 for third place.
Senior
Joe Reagan leaped an indoor best of 24-7 to win the long jump. His mark is the third-best indoors all-time by a Coyote and the best since 2002. He moves to the top of the Summit League standings.
Junior
Helen Falda captured the pole vault by clearing 13-7 ¾ on her first attempt. Freshman
Deidra Marrison also cleared 13-7 ¾, but on her second attempt to take second place. Marrison becomes the third Coyote women to jump 13-7 or higher this season for the top-three spots in the Summit League standings. Junior
Chris Nilsen added a win in the men's pole vault.
The Coyotes swept the top-three spots in the women's mile. Senior
Megan Billington won in 4:56.33, breaking the five-minute mark in all three attempts at the event this season. Classmate
Madeline Huglen finished runner-up in 4:57.41 while sophomore
Jonna Bart placed third in 5:01.16.
Senior
Lara Boman took first in the weight throw, launching it a distance of 66-10.
Three Coyotes clocked under nine seconds to sweep the top-three spots in the women's 60-meter hurdles. Senior
Alanisse Williams edged out junior teammate
Britny Kerr by three-thousandths of a second for first place. Both clocked 8.83 seconds in the event. Redshirt-freshman
Madason Tessier took third in 8.93 seconds.
Junior
Samara Spencer just missed her own school record in the 60 meters, clocking 7.58 seconds for the victory on Friday. Junior
Tasheka Gordon finished runner-up in 7.70 seconds.
Spencer also finished runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 17-11.
Senior
Ben Hammer launched the shot put a personal best of 60-7 ¼. He became the third Coyote to throw the shot put past 60 feet indoors earlier this season. He remains third in USD history.
Both Freshman
Haley Arens and senior
Eldon Warner finished runner-up in the 800 meters. Arens clocked a career best of 2:14.60, while Warner posted a season best of 1:53.14.
Sophomore
Alli Wroblewski took second in the 400 meters with a clocking of 58.55 seconds. Junior
Hannah Draayer finished just behind in third place in 58.70.
Redshirt-senior
Bethany Kozak finished third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:11.59.
Freshman
Merga Gemeda placed third with a time of 15:23.38 for 5,000 meters.
The meet served as a final tune-up for the Coyotes. The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships are staged for next Friday and Saturday in Brookings, South Dakota.
