LINCOLN, Neb.—South Dakota junior
Abby Ripperda paced the Coyotes with a runner-up performance at Nebraska's Woody Greeno Invitational on Saturday morning at the Mahoney Golf Course.
Ripperda finished runner-up in the field of 189 women with a clocking of 17:16.6. This year's rendition of the Woody Greeno was held at the Mahoney Golf Course again, but shortened a kilometer to 5,000 meters. The first 28 years in the meet's history were held across town at Pioneers Park.
The second Coyote across the line was senior
Kianna Stewart who placed 16th in 18:12.3.
South Dakota's three remaining scorers finished in a pack. Sophomore
Maddie Lavin finished 25th in 18:29.1 while junior
Laura Nelson was just behind in 26th place with a time of 18:31.4. Junior
Kelsi Kearney took 29th after crossing the finish line in 18:40.7.
Junior
Jonna Bart and sophomore
Haley Arens were the Coyotes' pushers on Saturday. Bart clocked 19:07.3 to finish in 43rd, while Arens crossed the line in 49th with a time of 19:16.0.
South Dakota placed third in the field with 94 points, marking the first meet this season the Coyote women have not won. The Big Ten's Iowa, who was one spot ahead of South Dakota in the last USTFCCCA regional rankings, took home the team title.
The Coyote men were paced by sophomore
Merga Gemeda in 20th place out of 250. Gemeda finished the 8,000-meter course with a time of 25:30.6.
Freshman
Clayton Whitehead took 33rd in the race with a time of 25:47.6.
The freshmen duo of
Alec Atwood and
Charlie Babcock were 74th and 77th, respectively, in the field. Atwood finished the meet in 26:33.3 and Babcock clocked 26:37.5. Junior
Kallo Arno rounded out the scorers in 96th place with a time of 26:51.9.
Lone senior
Abdinasir Abdi and junior
Seth Iverson were pushers for the Coyote men. Abdi crossed the finish line in 26:51.9, while Iverson clocked 27:03.9.
The Coyote men took 11th in the team race with 259 points.
South Dakota returns to action with the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Oct. 5.
