Coyotes host Midland to wrap up nonconference play

The Game

South Dakota tips off with Midland at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the final nonconference game of the season inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion, S.D. Fans can tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with Carter Woodiel on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion or by using the TuneIn app. A free live stream of the game is also available on GoYotes.com.

The Coyotes

South Dakota (3-3) returns to the friendly confines of the Sanford Coyote Sports Center for the first time in 24 days. Since the last home game against Lipscomb, the Coyotes covered 2,550 miles and seven states by bus for three road games. USD is back from its Christmas break, hosting Midland in a final nonconference tune-up before the weekends' Summit opener. The Coyotes will look to add depth behind the senior trio of Hannah Sjerven, Chloe Lamb and Liv Korngable, who account for 70 percent of the team's scoring. Freshman Morgan Hansen emerged as an additional scoring threat in the last two games, following up nine points at Bradley by dropping 17 on 7-of-12 shooting at Oklahoma.

The Warriors

Midland (9-4, 6-4 GPAC) is tied with Morningside and Briar Cliff for the most overall wins in the GPAC this season. The Warriors are led by Makenna Sullivan's 12.6 points and nearly 10 rebounds a game. She's accompanied by 3-point shooters in Lexis Haase (13.1 ppg), Peyton Wingert (11.3) and Lexi Kraft (6.7). This serves as Midland's first game back from break with the Warriors returning to GPAC action Saturday at Dordt.

The Series

The marks the first meeting between South Dakota and Midland.

One Last Thing

This game wraps up the calendar year of 2020 and marks the final nonconference game of the season. These seven nonconference games are the fewest in program history. (Conference affiliation began in 1982 when the women joined the men in the North Central Conference.)
