South Dakota Hosts North Dakota State Wednesday

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The South Dakota men's basketball team will host North Dakota State on Wednesday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 7 p.m.

The Game
The Yotes are entering the midst of vying for a top seed in the Summit League Tournament in less than a couple weeks. A win against the Bison will keep the Coyotes chance of getting the No. 1 or No. 2 seed alive. 

The Bison
North Dakota State sits at 19-7 overall and 10-2 conference and in second place a half-game back from the league leader in South Dakota State. 

The Bison recently defeated Oral Roberts and Purdue Fort Wayne to extend its win streak to six games. The last time the two teams matched up, the Bison prevailed after getting a bucket with less than two seconds left. 

NDSU is led by Vinnie Shahid with 18.1 points per game while Tyson Ward and Rocky Kreuser round out the double-figure scoring for the Bison with 15.5 and 10.5 points, respectively. 

As a team, North Dakota State shoots 44.9 percent while averaging 74.2 points per game. The Bison also shoot 34.8 percent from deep and 79.3 percent from the line. 

During its six-game win streak, the Bison have outscored its opponents by an average margin of 11.5 points while shooting 46.5 percent from the field. NDSU is also making an average of 21.3 free throws compared to its opponent's 12.5 per game. 

The Coyotes (19-9, 9-4 SL)
South Dakota enters winners of its last 10-of-12 games. The Yotes eight-game win streak was snapped at the hands of Oral Roberts this past Saturday. USD sits in third place in the conference standings two games back from NDSU and South Dakota State. 

Tyler Hagedorn leads the team with 18.7 points per game which ranks first in the Summit. Stanley Umude is averaging 16.8 points per game which ranks sixth in the League. The junior scored a season-high 28 points against Western Illinois and then followed that up with a 27-point effort against Oral Roberts. 

Cody Kelley (11.0), Triston Simpson (11.6) and Tyler Peterson (11.0) round out the starting five that all average in double figures. USD is one of two Division I schools that have five players average 11 points or more this season. 

As a team, the Yotes average 80.2 points per game on 49.4 percent shooting from the field and 39.2 percent from beyond the arc. 

The Series
North Dakota State leads the overall series 97-81 but South Dakota leads the series with games played in Vermillion 47-35. The two teams split the season series last year while NDSU took the first game of this season on Jan. 15 at home 72-70. 

Player to Watch
Stanley Umude averaged 27 points per game last week against Western Illinois and Oral Roberts. He went 10-of-13 against the Leathernecks and went 14-of-20 from the charity stripe against Oral Roberts. He recorded a season-high 28 points against WIU and followed it up with 27 against ORU.
