HOPEWELL, N.J.—South Dakota senior guard
Ciara Duffy has been named as one of 10 semifinalists for the inaugural Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.
The Becky Hammon Award presented by Her Hoop Stats recognizes the nation's best mid-major player in women's basketball. The award is named for South Dakota basketball legend Becky Hammon, who became the first female full-time coach in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Hammon spent 16 years playing in the WNBA and her last eight with the San Antonio Stars, where her number was retired in 2016. She was a six-time WNBA All-Star.
Duffy and Hammon share the same hometown in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The 2020 Summit League Preseason Player of the Year, Duffy's senior campaign has her averaging more than 17 points, six rebounds and five assists per game. She's also shooting 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the stripe.
Duffy is a two-time Academic All-American and two-time Summit League first team pick. She was also named a candidate for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award. Duffy's Coyotes have spent the past 10 weeks in the top-25 this season, climbing to No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll this week.
