VERMILLION – South Dakota women's swimming and diving earned a 165-134 dual meet victory over St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon inside the DakotaDome Pool.
Picking up two individual victories apiece for the victorious Coyotes were
Emily Johnson,
Lucie Anderson and
Maddie Lavin.
Johnson, a sophomore, won the 100 freestyle in 1:01.37 and the 200 freestyle in 2:11.28. She also anchored a winning 200 medley relay, joining
Lauren Van Fleet,
Isabelle Davenport and
Cassie Ketterling in touching in 2:03.46.
Anderson, a junior, claimed both backstroke events, winning the 100 in 1:07.98 and the 200 in 2:25.52.
Lavin, a junior, was just off her school record in the 200 butterfly, easily winning in 2:24.02 while coming back later in the meet to narrowly win the 100 fly in 1:05.97.
Freshman
Stella Fairbanks earned her first collegiate victory by taking the three-meter diving event with a final point total of 254.30.
Isabel Fairbanks, a junior, raced to a pair of runner-up finishes, hitting the line in 1:08.12 in the 100 backstroke and 2:32.07 in the 200 individual medley.
South Dakota received individual runner-up performances from
Naomi Bingham in the one-meter (239.40) diving competition,
Leah Drengenberg in the 800 freestyle (9:43.93), Davenport in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.10), Ella Kubas in the 400 free (4:45.29) and
Maddie Gallagher in the 50 free (28.08).
"It was good to see the women compete again," coach
Jason Mahowald said. "We have some kinks to work out, but glad the women got a meet under their belts.
"We'll see what the men do next week."
The Coyote men travel to St. Cloud State on Saturday for its spring opener.
