Coyotes to face old NCC foe Northern Colorado this Tuesday

The Game

South Dakota travels to Northern Colorado for a 7 p.m. (CST) tip-off Tuesday night inside the Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley, Colo.

The game will be streamed on espn+ (subscription required). Fans can tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer on the call, with the radio broadcast carried on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion and KQSF 95.7 in Sioux Falls, or by using The Varsity Network app.

The Coyotes

South Dakota (5-3) is searching for its first road win of the young season in four tries. Reigning Summit League Coach of the Year Todd Lee mixed up his starting lineup for the first time against Waldorf, an NAIA program from Iowa, on Friday night. Erik Oliver and Damani Hayes earned their first starts of the season while Xavier Fuller rested and Tasos Kamateros came off the bench. Oliver scored a season-high 20 points in Friday's win. It led six Coyotes in double figures. Kruz Perrott-Hunt continues to lead the squad in scoring with 14.6 points per game.

The Bears

Northern Colorado (5-5, 2-0 Big Sky) is picked to finish fifth in the 11-team Big Sky Conference. The Bears are coming off back-to-back home wins against Montana State (77-75 in OT) and Montana (78-75). Senior guard Daylen Kountz, who averaged 14 points in his first season at UNC last year, is leading the Bears with 18 points per game this season. UNC is making 10 three-pointers per game and shooting them at a 37 percent clip.

The Series

South Dakota leads the all-time series against the former NCC foes, 31-22. This is just the third meeting between the two teams since the 2002-03 season when the Bears began the move to Division I. The two most recent meetings (2017 & 2019) took place inside the Sanford Pentagon. This is the Coyotes' first trip to Greeley since a 91-84 win on Jan. 11, 2003.

One Last Thing

Good defense has fueled the Coyotes in recent games. San Jose State went more than 10 minutes without a point in the second half before pulling away late. The Coyotes have held six of their eight opponents under 70 points with four below 60.
