VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota men's golf team will travel to Newton, Kansas to compete in the Summit League Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on May 1-3. The Yotes will compete at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course with tee times starting at 8 a.m. CT daily.

Format: Nine member schools will golf 54 holes in three days, 18 holes each day, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. Round 1 is on Saturday, round 2 is Sunday while the third and final round is on Monday.

CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
- The 2021 Men's Golf Championship will be the fifth consecutive played at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kan. The championship will feature a Par-72, 7,086-yard course layout. Newton is located around 20 miles north of Wichita.
- The Denver men under the direction of first-year head coach Trake Carpenter will look to defend their 2019 crown that was the last trophy awarded after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
- South Dakota is the sixth team in the field that brings a sub-300 team scoring average to Sand Creek Station. The Coyotes are led by senior Matt Tolan, who was the top Summit League finisher at the Stampede at the Creek as he finished runner-up and earned his second #SummitGF weekly honors of the season.
- The Coyotes and the Jackrabbits tied for second at the 2019 Men's Championship with team totals of 889, while Oral Roberts and North Dakota State shared fourth and were just a stroke off that pace with 890 totals.
- The Coyotes will look to win their second Summit League Championship with their first one coming in 2015. It will also be their fifth all-time with three coming from the days in the North Central Conference (1947, 1957 and 2003)
- USD has had six individual titles all coming in the NCC days as well.
- South Dakota has placed in the top three in four of the last five Summit Championships.
- Tolan is a two-time golfer of the week and has the second lowest round on the squad at 69, Arends' 68 is the lowest on the team this season.
- Tolan has recorded six rounds of par or below while Arends has five. Tolan ranks second all-time with a career average of 73.87. Tolan ranks fourth in the conference (Min. 10 rounds) with a 73.1 stroke average.
- South Dakota ranks sixth with a 299-stroke average. The Yotes season average ranks fourth all-time at USD.
