NEWTON, Kan. – The South Dakota men's golf team finished the 2021 Summit League Championships tied for fourth place Monday afternoon at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course. Junior
Ben Hicks finished tied for seventh place to lead the Yotes.
Hicks had yet another strong round Monday carding a 3-over 75. After three rounds of action, Hicks recorded a total score of 220 for his lowest 54-hole score of the season. Sophomore
Ian Johnston tied for 15
th place with a 3-over 75. His three-round score of 222 tied his lowest 54-hole score of the season.
Senior
Matt Tolan battled throughout the final 18 holes on Monday to tie for 20
th place. He carded an 81 on the final round for a three-round score of 226. Fellow senior
Tate Arends shot a 5-over 77 in the final round to record a 54-hole score of 229.
Rounding out the field for the Yotes was junior
Justin Kolb who placed 33
rd. Kolb had the second lowest score among the Yotes on the final day with his 4-over 76. He recorded a three-round score of 232 which was his lowest score on the season.
As a team, South Dakota shot a 303 in the final round to tie with in-state rival South Dakota State for fifth place with a three-round score of 892 (+28).
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
- USD ranked fourth among the field on par 3s with a 3.25 average.
- USD recorded 169 pars and 31 birdies after three rounds of action.
- Johnston played well all three rounds on par 3s ranking second among the field with a 3.00 average.
- Hicks played exceptionally well on par 5s and after three rounds led the entire field with a 4.58 average.
- Johnston recorded 11 birdies to lead the Yotes while Arends and Hicks recorded 37 pars.
