Season three of "YoteCast" with John Thayer, the official podcast of Coyote athletics from Learfield and the Coyote Sports Network, debuts this week with a pair of Olympic medalists as featured guests.
Â
Coyote alumnus Chris Nilsen brought home the silver medal in the pole vault at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He vaulted a personal best of 19 feet, 7 inches (5.97m), in the Olympic final. Nilsen chats about his Olympic experience, the Vermillion welcome home party and more.
Â
Thayer also chats with USD associate director of track and field
Derek Miles on the first show. Miles, an Olympic bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, continues to serve as Nilsen's coach post-collegiately. The pair have worked together since Nilsen arrived on campus in 2016. Miles talks about being on the outside of the stadium for the first time, Nilsen's growth as an athlete and more.
Â
But the show begins as we always do with athletic director
David Herbster. He chats with Thayer about the return of student-athletes to campus, COVID-19 protocols and updates, and the upcoming Coyote Block Party.
