The Game
South Dakota women's basketball travels to Western Illinois for its final Summit road game of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday inside Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois.
Fans can tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with Carter Woodiel, carried on KVTK 101.5 FM or 1570 AM in Yankton/Vermillion or by using The Varsity Network app. A live stream of the game will be available on ESPN3 with WIU student broadcasters Trevor Davis, Marvin Ransom, and Kyleigh Rogers on the call.
The Coyotes
South Dakota (21-5, 14-1) is coming off a 73-46 win at St. Thomas on Thursday evening. The Big Three, USD's trio of super seniors, lead the Coyotes in scoring for the second-straight season. Senior guard
Chloe Lamb is averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game. She's one of 15 players that were named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list. Senior center
Hannah Sjerven, who scored 26 on Thursday and is averaging 20 over the last five games, owns season averages of 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She became South Dakota's all-time blocks leader on Thursday night as well. Senior guard
Liv Korngable is averaging 12.9 points and a team-high 3.7 assists per game. She enters Saturday just six points shy of 1,000 for her career. Freshman guard
Grace Larkins has tallied back-to-back career-high 15-point games against Denver and St. Thomas.
The Leathernecks
This will be the fifth game in 10 days for Western Illinois (14-12, 5-10), with the Leathernecks traveling to the Summit's northern-most and southern-most schools last weekend on the road. The Leathernecks are battling for seeding position in the Summit League Tournament, currently sitting a half-game back of sixth in the standings. Danni Nichols, who joined Lamb on the Becky Hammon midseason watch list, leads the squad with 16 points per game. Evan Zars leads the team on the glass with 9.2 rebounds per game and Elizabeth Lutz averages a team-high 3.9 assists per game. The Leathernecks are second in the Summit in scoring offense, playing with a quick tempo and knocking down threes. WIU ranks seventh in the nation in 3-pointers made this season.
The Series
South Dakota leads the series 19-3, with nine-straight wins dating back to the Leathernecks' Summit title in 2017. The Coyotes won the first meeting 70-53 in Vermillion last month.
One Last Thing
Lamb received recognition on Thursday for her performance both on the court and in the classroom, being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
