MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – South Dakota women's track and field team member Marleen Mulla set the meet and facility record on day one of the Jack Johnson Classic held inside the Minnesota Field House.

Mulla, a sophomore, won the pole vault with a personal best clearance of 14-6.25 (4.43m) to break the meet record and facility record of 4.41 that was established by Leslie Brost in 2015.

Mulla, who took all three attempts to clear the previous height, 14-4 (4.37m), made her record jump on the first attempt and in the process moved from third to second on South Dakota's all-time indoor chart.

Cassidy Mooneyhan, a third-year sophomore, finished third in the championship flight behind Mulla and Minnesota's Alexys Berger with a clearance of 13-4.25 (4.07m).

Jaidyn Garrett and
Gen Hirata finished fourth and fifth, respectively, clearing 13-0.25 (3.97m).

Liberty Justus, a fifth-year senior, finished third in the pentathlon, compiling 3,389 points in her first attempt this season at the five-event discipline. Her total ranks second in the Summit League.

Derek Eidsness, a sophomore, is currently sitting in fifth place following the opening day of the heptathlon, with 2,654 points.

Day two begins at 9:30 a.m. with field events and 11:15 a.m. with the resumption of the men's heptathlon. Â
