Ribbink paces Coyotes at Black Hills Collegiate Cup

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D.—South Dakota junior Kayla Ribbink crossed the finish line in third place at the Black Hills Collegiate Cup held at the Belle Fourche Reservoir on Sunday afternoon to lead the Coyotes.

Ribbink completed the course with an overall time of 59:48.9, just 37 seconds off the winning time of 59:11.3 by Maite Kustner of San Francisco. Ribbink, who hails from Durban, South Africa, recorded the second-fastest run in the competition (19:23.2).
 
Sophomore Chelsea Webber, the Coyotes' top returner from last year's national meet, finished one spot back in fourth place. A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Webber was the second athlete out of the water, completing the swim in 6:51.8. She tallied an overall time of 1:00:21.4.
 
Franziska Neck, a junior from Düsseldorf, Germany, took 11th overall with a time of 1:02:04.1. Junior SMSU transfer Grace Busch and senior Verena Vesely rounded out the Coyotes' scorers in 16th and 18th place, respectively. A native of Mankato, Minnesota, Busch completed the course in 1:03:25.9. Vesely, out of Innsbruck, Austria, clocked 1:04:33.5.
 
South Dakota tied Denver for second in the team scoring with 198 points. San Francisco took home the team title with a score of 206.
 
Also racing for the Coyotes on Sunday were junior Ella Perras of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, freshman Lulu Ehinger from Coppell, Texas, and freshman Ella Spitz from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Ehinger, who is also a member of the Coyotes' cross country squad this fall, had the third-fastest run of the competition with a time of 19:47.2.
