Umude signs two-way contract with Pistons

10.24.2023

DETROIT–South Dakota men's basketball alumnus Stanley Umude has signed a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons, upgrading from his original Exhibit-10 deal.

Umude, who spent four seasons as a Coyote, originally signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Pistons ahead of training camp. Exhibit-10 deals offer teams flexibility to either retain a player on a minimum contract or upgrade the contract to a two-way deal. Two-way contracts offer players the opportunity to play for an NBA team and its G League affiliate.

Umude averaged 17 minutes and 9.3 points in four preseason games with the Pistons. He shot 45 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range. Last February, Umude made his NBA debut with the Pistons while he was on a 10-day deal.

The Motor City Cruise is the Pistons' G League affiliate that Umude played for last season. He averaged 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 27 minutes over 25 games.

Umude was a three-year starter for the Coyotes, accumulating 1,520 career points (11th in USD history). He is the only three-time all-Summit League honoree in men's basketball history and made the NABC All-District team as a senior. He averaged 21.6 points per game during 2020-21, which ranked ninth nationally.
