SACRAMENTO, Calif.—South Dakota junior
Jacy Pulse and sophomore
Danii Anglin will be joining the party in Austin, advancing through the NCAA West Preliminary Saturday inside Hornet Stadium.
In total, South Dakota will have a program record six women in action at the NCAA Championship meet. Pulse and Anglin will be joined by hammer thrower
Lydia Knapp and three pole vaulters –
Marleen Mülla,
Cassidy Mooneyhan and
Gen Hirata. The six qualifiers also ties the Coyotes' overall record for number of qualifiers to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Pulse advanced through the quarterfinals of the women's 400-meter hurdles, breaking her own school record for the second time in three days. She finished third in her heat, earning an automatic advancing spot to the NCAA finals, with a personal best time of 56.11 seconds. Her time was the fifth-fastest in the field. This will be Pulse's first NCAA Championship meet.
Anglin will be making a return trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the women's high jump. She cleared 5-11 ½ (1.82m) on her second attempt to secure a qualifying spot to the national meet, tying for ninth place. Anglin is a two-time All-American in the high jump, also qualifying indoors back in March.
Fourth-year juniors Knapp and
Meredith Clark also wrapped up their NCAA West Preliminary weekend with the women's discus throw. Knapp took 23rd with a mark of 169-3 (51.59m). On Thursday, Knapp punched her ticket to the NCAA finals in the women's hammer throw. Clark took on her third throwing event of the weekend, finishing 43rd in 156-0 (47.55m).
South Dakota's women's 4x1000-meter relay of
Sammy Neil, Pulse,
Anna Robinson and
Erin Kinney, which set a school record of 44.63 seconds this season, also competed at the NCAA West Preliminary.
The Coyotes are sending six women to the NCAA Championships held June 8th and 10th in Austin, Texas.
