PREVIEW: Coyotes travel to Kalamazoo to face Western Michigan Wednesday

VERMILLION, S.D. — Coyote men's basketball heads to Kalamazoo, Michigan for its first of two road games this week, facing Western Michigan Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. CT.
 
Quick Hitters
  • After playing four of its first five games at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, the South Dakota men's basketball team will be on the road for a pair of games this week starting Wednesday in Kalamazoo against Western Michigan.
  • The Coyotes lone road game so far this season was a 96-77 loss to Iowa last Tuesday. Kaleb Stewart led the Yotes in the contest with a season high 26 points.
  • Through two games, the Coyotes have spread the wealth offensively with three players averaging 10 or more points per game, and nine averaging over 5.0 per game.
  • The Coyotes have had a different leading scorer in each game so far this season.
  • Isaac Bruns has scored in double figures in all five games to start the season and is averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game. The sophomore guard poured in a career high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting with three 3-pointers in Thursday's win over Dakota Wesleyan.
  • Kaleb Stewart went off for 26 points, his first double-digit performance of the season, at Iowa last Tuesday on 11-of-19 shooting with a four 3-pointers.
  • Chase Forte does a little bit of everything for the Coyotes and averages the third most points per game at 12.0, to go with 3.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.2 boards per game.
  • Kaleb Stewart has scored in double-digits in two straight games and is the second leading scorer at 12.2 points per contest.
  • Isaac Bruns paces the Coyotes bench mob that ranks No.1 in the Summit League and No. 16 in the NCAA in bench production at 41.0 points per game. Dre Bullock averages 21.8 minutes off the USD bench and is fourth on the team at 9.6 points per game and grabs 4.2 boards.
  • South Dakota was one of four men's basketball teams in the country to play five games in 11 days to kick off the season. Of the four teams, USD held the best record at 4-1, followed by Pacific (3-2), Louisiana-Monroe (2-3) and Coppin State (0-5).

Options on Offense
  • The Coyotes have had a different leading scorer in each of the first five games of the season.
  • Five Yotes averaged double-digit point totals and nine score over 5.2 points per game.
  • Isaac Bruns set a new career-high of 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting in the Yotes win over Dakota Wesleyan last week.
  • Kaleb Stewart poured in a season high 26 points with four treys in the Coyotes loss at Iowa on 11/12/24.
  • Paul Bruns paced the Yotes in the season-opener with 14 points, one of five Coyotes in double-figures.
  • Chase Forte poured in 23 in the win over Texas A&M-Commerce, a game where six Yotes scored 10+ points.
  • In the most recent win over the Lancers, Shey Eberwein totaled a career-high 15 points with three treys in 21 minutes off the bench.
  • Isaac Bruns is the top scorer for the Yotes at 14.0 points per game in 20.4 minutes off the bench for USD. Dre Bullock is also part of the Coyote bench mob and averages the fourth most points on the team at 9.6.
  • Kaleb Stewart (12.2) and Chase Forte (12.0) are the other two Yotes averaging 10+ points per contest.

Lights Out on the Road
  • Road venues didn't intimidate the Coyote sharpshooters a season ago, as USD knocked down 103 treys in 14 road contests with a .386 3-point percentage on the road.
  • The Yotes ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in road 3-point shooting (.386%).
  • Kaleb Stewart was especially lethal from range on the road with 34 triples on a .472 conversion rate.
  • In the USD's only road game of the season so far, they shot 10-for-32 from deep and were led by Stewart who went 4-for-10 from deep at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

  • Bench Mob
  • The Coyotes bolster the No. 16 ranked bench unit in the NCAA at 41.0 points per game.
  • Isaac Bruns has provided instant offense for Eric Peterson's squad, as he's averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game in 20.4 minutes off the bench. 
  • Bruns is the only Coyote to score in double-figures in each of the first five games.
  • Dre Bullock has reached double-figures in three of five games and has had multiple steals in four contests.
  • Shey Eberwein set a career-high of 15 points in 21 minutes off the bench in USD's win over Mount Marty.
  • It also marked the first game of his career where Eberwein led the Yotes in scoring.

Rebounding by Committee
  • It has been a group effort on the boards to begin the season, with six Yotes averaging three or more rebounds per game.
  • Paul Bruns is the top rebounder at 5.4 rebounds per game and has found a knack for tracking down offensive rebounds with 1.8 per game.
  • Bruns has led the Coyotes in rebounding in three of the first five games.
  • Cameron Fens is next at 4.6 rebounds per game (2.0 offensive) per game, and Isaac Bruns has corralled 4.4 per contest.

Everyone Scores!
  • The Coyotes went 11 players deep in each of their first two games to start the season.
  • In the win over Texas A&M-Commerce, six Coyotes reach double-figure scoring, led by Chase Forte's 23 points.
  • It was Forte's first game leading the Yotes in scoring, and was just two points shy of a career high.
  • His career-high of 25 points was set last season, against Texas A&M-Commerce.
  • Forte knocked down a career-best 13 free throws on 16 attempts against TAMC
  • He also added four boards, four assists and a pair of steals.
  • Cameron Fens added a career-high 14 points, his first game in double-digits this season, on 6-of-10 shooting with five rebounds.
  • Isaac Bruns (13), Dre Bullock (11), Kaleb Stewart (10) and Paul Bruns (10) also reach double-digits against the Lions.
  • Eight Coyotes connected on over .500 percent of their field goal attempts in the season opener against Southern.
  • Five Yotes reached double-digit scoring against Southern, led by Paul Bruns' 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting with three treys.
