SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—South Dakota fourth-year junior
Sara Reifenrath and sophomore
Bennett Schwenn have been named the Summit League's Peak Performers of the Week presented by TicketSmarter for the period ended Feb. 11. Reifenrath captures the league's honor on the track and Schwenn garners the field accolade.
Reifenrath, a native of Hartington, Nebraska, nabs her third career weekly honor from the league and her first since February of 2022.
After missing most of the 2023 season to injury, Reifenrath has been on fire since the start of 2024. She broke a pair of records over the weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She initially broke her own 400-meter open record from 2021 by clocking 52.95 seconds. She moved to 28th in the nation with the time. She turned around one day later to anchor the women's 4x400-meter relay with a split of 52.61 seconds. She joined
Jacy Pulse,
Anna Robinson and
Erin Kinney on the school record relay that clocked 3:34.54 seconds. The quartet bested the previous record by eight seconds and ranks 18th in the nation this season.
Schwenn, hailing from Milbank, South Dakota, collects the first weekly accolade of his career.
Schwenn recorded a big personal best in the long jump, leaping 24-8 ¼ (7.52m) for third place in the event at the Tyson Invitational. His mark is just two inches shy of the school record set in 1978. His mark leads the Summit League this season by 10 inches.
South Dakota is back in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Nebraska Tune-Up next Friday, Feb. 16.
