GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The South Dakota men's golf team is set to compete in their second spring tournament of the season Sunday through Tuesday at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Arizona. The tournament will consist of three rounds, one each day, at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
The Coyotes' lineup will be the same group that competed in last week's World Golf Village Collegiate.
Max Schmidtke and
Nick LaMotte will golf in the top two spots, with
Logan Hamak following him. Freshman
Cole Witherow and senior
Ryan Neff round out the official competition group. Freshmen
Joe Rohlwing and
Parker Etzel will also be competing for USD as individuals.
Last week, Schmidtke led the Coyotes with an 11
th place finish at the World Golf Village Collegiate. LaMotte and Hamak both finished in the top 20 as well. South Dakota finished tied for sixth in an 18-team field.
This week's field includes twenty teams, three of which compete in the Summit League. The full field includes Loyola Maryland, James Madison, Boise State, Utah Valley, Idaho, Delaware, Marshall, Howard, Drake, Air Force, NDSU, SDSU, Northern Colorado, Seton Hall, Bucknell, Missouri State, Eastern Michigan, Gonzaga, SIUE and South Dakota. James Madison enters the tournament with the highest team ranking in the competition at 114.
Each round of the tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:45am CST. Weather for the week looks good, with highs in the 70s and 80s, and lows in the 40s and 50s. No rain is expected, but the Coyotes can expect to deal with some wind the final two days.
