SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota women's tennis players
Bea Havlickova,
Anna Medvyedyeva,
Selena Bird and
Amanda de Oliveira have been named to the All-Summit League Team, the league announced on Thursday.
Â
Havlickova and Medvyedyeva were named to the 12-member first team while Bird and de Oliveira were named to honorable mention selections.
Â
Havlickova, a junior from Louny, Czech Republic, was the Coyotes No. 1 singles player throughout the season and posted a 4-2 mark during league play, was 10-7 during the dual season and 17-12 overall on the year. The two-time All-Summit League selection enters the Summit League tournament on a seven-match win streak and has entered the school's career top 10 charts for singles and doubles wins.
Â
"Bea has had such a strong year for us," coach
Brett Barnett said. "She's improved each year she has been at USD. She has worked very hard this year and it is showing with her results.
Â
"She has been very dependable each match in both singles and doubles. She's playing her best tennis of the year right now and this is a well-deserved award for her."
Â
Medvyedyeva, a sophomore who hails from Lviv, Ukraine, played primarily at the No. 3 singles position, posting nine of her 12 wins during the dual season at that spot. She was 4-2 in league play and had 17 wins overall during the season, including her last seven in succession.
Â
"Anna has improved so much this year," said Barnett. "She is a fighter and always brings her best energy and effort to the court.Â
Â
"She's had one heck of a year in both singles and doubles and has made some great strides in her game. It will be fun to continue to watch her develop."
Â
Bird, a sophomore from Miami, Florida, had a strong second spring for South Dakota amassing 11 wins during the dual season that included a 5-1 Summit League mark while playing at the No. 6 spot.
Â
"Selena has been so dependable on court in singles all year," said Barnett. "She's worked hard and has developed different parts in her game this spring.Â
Â
"She's anchored the bottom of our lineup all year and I know I can count on her each match."
Â
The freshman de Oliveira, who hails from Caxias do Sul, Brazil, went 9-9 during the dual season while playing primarily at the No. 2 singles position. She had 16 wins overall and was 3-3 during Summit League play.
Â
"Amanda has had a great season for us," said Barnett. "She stepped up immediately after arriving at USD and loves to work and is always looking to improve. She competes well and I've been able to trust and count on her all year.Â
Â
"She's had some great singles wins in conference and has played great doubles with Sorcha (Caves) the last half of the season."
Â
South Dakota earned the No. 2 seed in the Summit League championships and is 11-9 overall on the season.
