DES MOINES, Iowa—South Dakota senior Abbie Schmidt clocked a personal record on the big blue oval during Thursday night's distance carnival at the 114th Drake Relays in Drake Stadium.
 
Schmidt improved her personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by six-tenths of a second. She crossed the finish line in 11:10.27. She ranks seventh in the Summit League in the event this season.
 
Fifth-year senior Madison Jochum finished 11th in the unseeded 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:12.31. The time is a season best and ranks eighth in the Summit this spring.
 
South Dakota returns to action at the Drake Relays Friday morning with the first field event at 9:30 a.m. inside Drake Stadium.
