AUSTIN, Texas—South Dakota fifth-year senior
Marshall Faurot was voted to the men's track and field Academic All-America third team by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) on Wednesday morning.
Faurot becomes the 59th Coyote to garner Academic All-America status across all sports. South Dakota's 59 Academic All-Americans have combined to record 75 total honors. The track and field program has tallied 21 honors in the last 20 years.
Hailing from Scott City, Kansas, Faurot graduated last May with a degree in kinesiology and sport management. He holds a 3.75 grade-point average while working towards his master's of business administration from USD's Beacom School of Business.
Faurot captured first team All-America honors in the men's pole vault at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He took eighth indoors with a clearance of 17-8 ½ (5.40m) and tied for eighth outdoors with a height of 17-7 ¼ (5.37m).
Faurot was also the Summit League Men's Field Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2024. He won Summit crowns in the pole vault both indoors and outdoors, clearing a personal best of 18-1 ¼ (5.52m) at the Summit League Indoor Championships. The performance earned him the Summit League's Most Outstanding Performer of the Championship award. He's a four-time Summit League Champion for his career.
The Academic All-America teams are nominated by and voted on by institution's sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must boast a cumulative grade-point average above 3.50 and rank amongst the top-50 in their region for an event.
