IOWA CITY, Iowa --
Emily Kahn captured a three-peat in the 100 free on Saturday at the Summit League Championships inside the CRWC on the University of Iowa campus.
Kahn, a senior, then capped her collegiate career by leading off a 400 free relay that won its second straight Summit League title. Kahn, who opened the relay in 49.85 seconds, was joined by
Grace Schultz,
Madilyn Gehrke and
Carson White.
Kahn earned her fifth individual Summit League title of her four-year career with a stellar personal best of 49.39, lowering her school record time. Kahn's relay title was her sixth as she becomes the first Coyote to reach double figures in Summit League titles, ending her career with 11 gold medals.
South Dakota, behind nine individual All-Summit League performances on the women's side and six on the men's side, finished in second place in the team standings in both divisions. The women's team recorded 712 points to earn their fourth straight runner-up finish and sixth in the last seven seasons while the men's team had 697.5 points and were runners-up for the fifth time in the last eight years.Â
Emily DiProspero, a freshman, accumulated 50.5 points in individual races throughout the four days of competition and was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Championships, the first Coyote to win this honor in league history.
DiProspero opened Saturday's finals session with a runner-up finish in the 1650 freestyle where she lowered her school record time to 16:59.38, the first to drop under 17 minutes in school history, even though she had to stop midway through the race to put on a new pair of goggles after hers had fallen off early in the race. It was one of three runner-up finishes for the first year Coyote from Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin.
Schultz, a junior, broke the two-minute barrier in the 200 back for the very first time in her collegiate career to earn a runner-up finish. She moved up two spots to No. 2 all-time in school history.Â
Taylor Buhr used a season best effort of 2:16.72 to place third in the 200 breaststroke 'A' final while teammates
Phoebe Paarlberg and
Blake Currie posted a 1-2 finish in the 'B' final with personal best times. Paarlberg, a sophomore, had a 2:18.36 to place ninth and Currie, a junior, touched in 2:20.90 to finish 10th. Paarlberg jumped to second all-time and Currie to seventh on the Coyote Top Ten charts.
Madeline Schrank, a freshman, was fourth in the 200 fly in a personal best 2:04.33, White finished sixth in the 100 free in a season best 50.99 and two more Coyotes raced in the 'A' final of the 1650 free as freshman
Ashley Koenig was fourth in a personal best 17:12.09 and junior
Camilla Brogger-Andersen sixth in 17:21.65. Koenig moves into the Top Ten at third all time.
Joaquin Contreras-Fallico, the 100 back champ on Friday, placed third in the 200 back on Saturday as the lone medalists for the men's team on the final day of competition. Contreras-Fallico touched the wall in 1:45.59 while teammate
Adam Fisher, a senior, was fourth in a personal best 1:47.61.
Alex Parkinson, a freshman, placed fourth in the 1650 freestyle in a personal best 15:31.23, lowering his school record time.
Keegan Henning, a fifth-year senior, had a personal best of 15:57.30 to place eighth and freshman
Luke Kelley was ninth in a personal best 15:57.46. Henning moved up to third all-time with Kelley moving into fourth all-time.Â
Jacob Carlson had to put in a little extra work to get to his seventh-place finish in the 100 free where he recorded a finals time of 45.23, just ahead of
David Mayer, eighth in 45.38. Carlson, a senior, had to win a three-person swim-off after three individuals tied for the eighth and final spot in the 'A' finals. Carlson was timed in 45.14 in the swim-off while teammate
Matthew Sorbe touched in a personal best 45.17.Â
James Schreiber, a freshman, would win the 'B' final to place ninth in a personal best 44.92 while Sorbe was 12th in 45.27. Schreiber moved up to fifth all-time,
Nick Rounds, who clocked 45.05 in the morning prelims as an exhibition swimmer, moved up to seventh all-time nad Sorbe into the Top Ten at a tie for 9th with Mayer.Â
The men's quartet of Schreiber, Carlson, Sorbe and Rounds placed fourth in the 400 free relay to conclude the championships with a season best 2:58.75.Â
Other new Coyote Top Ten marks on Saturday came from freshman
Alex Landmark with a 1:53.55 in the 200 fly for 10th all time, freshman
Ethan LaBounty, who placed 11th in the 200 breast in 2:04.20 to move into eighth all time and sophomore
Lauren Anderson, who posted a 2:03.51 time in the morning prelims of the 200 back to get to 10th all time.Â
