One of 11 Coyotes who started all 11 games, he at defensive end … finished third in the balloting for STATS FCS National Freshman of the Year … was the top vote getter amongst all defensive players … first player in program history to be named Missouri Valley Football Conference Freshman of the Year … earned first-team all-MVFC honors … also named to the Valley’s all-Newcomer Team … led the Valley and  ranked 10^th nationally in tackles-for-loss per game … had the fifth-most tackles on the team with 56 including 18.0 for loss and 9.0 sacks … finished second in the Valley in total tackles-for-loss and was third in sacks … 18.0 TFL are 10th-highest single-season total in program history … 9.0 sacks tied for sixth most in program history … had three fumble recoveries, which tied for fourth most in the nation … forced two fumbles, was credited with six quarterback hurries and had two pass breakups … was named MVFC Defensive Player of the Week following the win against Southern Illinois (11/7) … had a sack, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles in the victory … recovered a fumble forced by teammate Drew Iddings on the SIU 19 with 5:21 remaining that preceded the game-winning touchdown … had a season-high eight tackles including a sack in the team’s win against defending national champion North Dakota State, ending the Bison’s MVFC record 26-game home win streak and ending the Coyotes’ 14-game conference skid (10/17) … twice had two sacks in a single game … had five tackles, including two sacks and 3.5 tackles-for-loss in the win against Drake in the season opener (9/19) … also forced a fumble inside the 10 and blocked a 31-yard field goal attempt to preserve the shutout

Redshirted…was twice named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Week (leading into Southern Illinois and Missouri State)…MVFC Conference Honor Roll member.

Prep
A first-team All-State defensive back out of Rock Valley High School in Iowa...accrued 162 tackles, six interceptions and six fumble recoveries for the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks...also played several positions on the offensive side of the ball for the Nighthawks, including quarterback last season where he accumulated 1,500 yards passing and 1,400 yards rushing...On the basketball court, he averaged better than 20 points per game during his senior season.
