Coyote Baseball Swept at Nebraska-Omaha

OMAHA, NEB. -- The South Dakota baseball team (22-24, 9-15 NCC) was swept by Nebraska-Omaha in an NCC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Millard, Neb. UNO took game one 18-7 and recorded a 19-8 win in the second game.

USD held a 5-1 lead into the third inning of game one, but Nebraska-Omaha surged back by scoring 14 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cruise to the victory.

In game two, UNO jumped out to a 15-1 lead after two innings of play en route to the win.

At the plate for the Coyotes, junior Chris Fielder (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) hit three solo home runs (6) on the day, going 4-for-8 with four runs scored.

Senior Bryan Hohenthaner (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was 4-for-5 on the day with three RBI and three runs scored, including his sixth homer of the season. Hohenthaner has been on fire during the NCC season, hitting .476 with four home runs and 20 RBI.

Juniors Drake Carlson (Elkhorn, Neb.), Cress Murdock (Lakewood, Calif.), Larry Mahoney (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Justin Flores (Van Horn, Texas) all smashed home runs in the doubleheader.

Senior Matt Huggett (Anaheim, Calif.) was the pitcher of record in game one, falling to 4-2 on the year. In game two, junior Daniel Sons (Moreno Valley, Calif.) took the loss, dropping his record to 3-7.

South Dakota closes out its season this weekend when it travels to Brookings, S.D., to take on South Dakota State in a four-game series Friday and Saturday. Doubleheaders each day will get underway at 3:30 p.m.
