SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Senior Bryan Hohenthaner and junior Robin Chute of the South Dakota baseball team were named to the All-North Central Conference Baseball First Team in an announcement by the league office Wednesday. In addition, senior Matt Huggett earned second-team honors.
Hohenthaner, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., hit at a red-hot .462 clip in NCC play this season, leading the league in that category. In 26 NCC games, he led the conference in hits (36), doubles (11), slugging percentage (.795) and ranked third in on-base percentage (.517).
Overall, Hohenthaner ranked third in the NCC with a .385 batting average. Hohenthaner, who was USD's starting centerfielder, had a team-high seven home runs, drove in 37 runs and was a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases.
Chute ranked eighth in the conference in hitting with a .372 batting average, leading off all 50 games this season for the Coyotes.. A native of Chelsea, Iowa, the speedy shortstop was second in the NCC in hits (67), second in runs (51) and fourth in stolen bases (11). Chute, who last week was named to the Academic All-NCC squad, had six home runs, 13 doubles and 30 RBI this season.
Huggett, a native of Anaheim, Calif., compiled a 5-2 record with a 5.20 ERA in 13 appearances. The left-hander ranked fourth in the league in strikeouts with 57. In conference games, Huggett was 4-2 with 35 strikeouts and a 6.20 ERA.
South Dakota finished the season with a 24-26 overall record and an 11-17 mark in the NCC.
