ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of South Dakota women's tennis team capped off its Florida trip with an 8-1 win over Lincoln University on Friday in Orlando, Fla.
USD (6-7) swept all three doubles matches. The Coyotes' only loss was as result of an injury default at No. 2 singles.
Shadi Soleymani (Fr., Vasteras, Sweden) and Rijalda Zejnic (Jr., Hamilton, Ontario) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles for USD, while Ashley Waltman (Sr., Rapid City, S.D.) and Isabel Nunez (Fr., Oakville, Ontario) paired up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. USD won at third doubles by injury default.
Soleymani and Nunez rolled to straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively for the Coyotes. Janea Hagen (So., Bellevue, Neb.) recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles for USD, while Melanie Rockne (Jr., Yankton, S.D.) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. USD won by injury default at No. 6 singles.
"We played well today," Coyote coach Malcolm Gilreath said. "We got used to the weather conditions and played well. It was fun."
USD resumes action on Saturday, March 21 in Sioux City, Iowa against Northern State (S.D.). The match begins at 2:30 p.m.
