Coyote Track and Field Starts Off Strong at Sioux City Relays

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The South Dakota track and field teams won four events to kick off competition at the Sioux City Relays, which are being held at Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa. The Coyote women won three events while the men captured one victory doing the opening day of the event.

Junior Jessica Brandli (Rapid City, S.D.) won the women's 10,000 meters with a personal-best time of 39:15. Junior Ali Gress (Papillion, Neb.) also ran a personal-best of 39:32 in the event to take second.

Senior Emma Ladwig (Gayville, S.D.) won the women's 800 meters at 2:12.95, while senior Jasmine Mosley (Bellevue, Neb.) captured the women's discus with a throw of 154-4, while freshman Ellysa Reinke (New Prague, Minn.) was second at 139-10, a personal-best. Mosley was fourth in the hammer throw at 170-11.

Junior Ashley Sveum (Eau Claire, Wis.) was second in the women's 400-meters at 57.73 while junior Kelsey Robish (Huron, S.D.) took third in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 18:14.45.

For the Coyote men, sophomore Cody Snyder (Lake Andes, S.D.), the reigning Summit League Men's Athlete of the Week, won the shot put with a throw of 54-11 1/4.

Sophomore Travis Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) was third in the 800-meter run at 1:54.69 while freshman Erik Hill was third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.50. Senior Chad Pinkelman (Norfolk, Neb.) was fourth in the triple jump at 45-7.

Preliminaries The Coyotes' 4x100 relay ran a preliminary-best time of 42.27. That consisted of freshman Erik Hill (Tea, S.D.), junior Brandon Kovash (Harrisburg, S.D.), senior Jared Clement (Le Mars, Iowa) and sophomore Jordan Schumacher (Rapid City, S.D.). The Coyotes men's 4x200 relay also posted the best time in the prelims, running a qualifying mark of 1:28.29. That consisted of Kovash, freshman Jeff O'Connell (Philip, S.D.), Clement and Schumacher.

Freshman Analisa Huschle (Bagley, Minn.) ran the second-fastest 100-meter dash time in the prelims at 12.45 to qualify for Saturday's finals. The Coyote women's 4 x 100 relay ran the fastest prelim time at 47.44. That consisted of Huschle, Ladwig, Sveum and junior Gabriel Williams (Sioux City, Iowa).

The final day of competition is set to begin Saturday morning. The first college/university event will be the men's discus at 9 a.m.
