Relay Sets School Record as South Dakota Track and Field Opens Competition at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - The South Dakota women's 4x1,600 relay set a school record to pace the Coyote track and field teams as they opened competition at the prestigious Drake Relays Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Coyotes' 4x1,600 relay set the school record of 20:39.43 and took 11th. That consisted of junior Jessica Brandli (Rapid City, S.D.), sophomore Ashleigh Giese (Marshall, Wis.), junior Carol Miller (Mead, Neb.) and sophomore Britni Waller (Lincoln, Neb.). The team topped its previous season-best by 24 seconds. Giese ran the fastest split of the group at 5:04.

Senior Emma Ladwig (Gayville, S.D.) was fourth in the unseeded 800 at 2:09.80, finishing ahead of runners from Wisconsin and Illinois. Sophomore Tansha Clarke (St. Catherine, Jamaica) finished with a personal-best score of 4,684 in the women's heptathlon.

Junior Ethan Marquardt (Albert Lea, Minn.) ran a time of 30:36.62 in the men's 10,000 meters, crushing his previous personal best by 25 seconds. He finished 14th in the race, ahead of runners from Georgia, Nebraska and Bradley).

Friday's competition at the Drake Relays is set to begin at 8 a.m.
