VERMILLION, S.D.—After three games on the road to start the season, the Coyote women's basketball team returns home for their final season in the DakotaDome.
South Dakota (0-3) and Marquette (0-3) enter tonight's game seeking their first win. The two programs met for the first time a year ago in Milwaukee, Wis., where the Coyotes won 69-65.
The home advantage led the Coyotes to a perfect 15-0 season under the DakotaDome roof a year ago. Head coach
Amy Williams also has a 35-7 home record in her first three seasons.
The Coyotes took the Big 12's Kansas State to overtime inside Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan. The Wildcats used eight free throws in the overtime period to win 84-81.
South Dakota senior guard
Nicole Seekamp returned to the floor for the first time this season at Kansas State. She was two rebounds shy of a triple-double, tallying 20 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. Her first bucket of the game moved her into sixth in program history for career points with 1,504. Seekamp also moved into the fifth spot for steals with 179 in her career.
Seekamp wasn't the only Coyote to surpass 20 points at Kansas State. Junior guard
Caitlin Duffy was 7-for-13 beyond the arc to score 21 points. She added six rebounds and five assists.
To stay in the game against Kansas State, Williams knew they would have to beat the zone defense outside the arc. South Dakota made 17-of-35 (.486) trey balls, tying a program record. The 17 3-pointers was also the most threes allowed by Kansas State in program history and a record by any team inside Bramlage Coliseum.
South Dakota will look to carry the momentum from the road back to its home crowd.
Tonight's game will feature a Golden Eagle roster that is the youngest in the nation with only two returners from a year ago. Wisconsin natives Allazia Blockton and Natisha Heideman, two of Marquette's eight true freshmen, lead the Golden Eagles in scoring with 15.3 and 14.0 points per game, respectively.
