Meghan Dennis placed third in the javelin to lead the Coyotes at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Thursday inside Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Dennis launched the javelin 152 feet, 1 inch for a mark five feet shy of winning the B section. She moves to 24th in the NCAA West Region. Dennis holds the school record in the event at 159-3. That distance qualified her for the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Senior
Kelsey Barrett finished ninth in the 5,000 meters with a clocking of 17:09.86. Freshman teammate
Megan Billington was also in the race, taking 19th in 17:55.84.
Setting a new outdoor personal best in the 5,000 meters, senior
Mubarik Musa crossed the finish line in 14:41.75 for 10th place. Musa bettered his previous outdoor time by three seconds.
In her first collegiate heptathlon, sophomore
Shanice Cannigan scored 5,035 points for the fifth-best time in program history. Cannigan, the indoor pentathlon school record holder, clocked 14.43 for the 100 hurdles, cleared 5-4 ¼ in the high jump, threw the shot put 30-8 ¼, ran 24.71 for 200 meters, leaped 18-9 ¼ in the long jump, threw the javelin 85-4 and crossed the finish line in 2:23.32 for 800 meters. Cannigan finished 19th overall.
Sophomore
Lindsay Joyce took 12th in the 1,500 meter "B" section with a personal best 4:43.16.
Senior
Isaac Allen finished 13th in the steeplechase in 9:36.19.
Sophomore
Jake David took 19th in the pole vault "C" section after clearing 16-1 ¼.
Freshman
Alex Borchers ran 54.48 seconds in the 400 hurdles for 55th.
South Dakota throws coach and three-time Olympian
A.G. Kruger won the hammer throw in 241-3. Kruger's mark was the third-best by a Texas Relays Champion in meet history and qualifies him for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
